Record a voice note and see your words as you speak
Tap the mic on the Save page to record with your words appearing on screen, or hold it for a quick note. Recordings run up to 30 minutes and stay on your phone.
On this page
Voice notes are the fastest way to get a thought down. Noodle writes down what you say while you speak, so the note is searchable as soon as you stop. You'll need the voice download for your language the first time (Noodle offers it).
Record a voice note
- Tap the + tab.
- At the bottom right, tap the round mic. The record screen opens.
- The first time, Android asks to use the microphone. Allow it.
- If the voice download isn't on your phone yet, Noodle shows Download the speech models first with its size. Tap Download. Recording starts when it finishes.
- Start speaking. Your words appear on screen as you talk, or after each short pause in some languages.
- Tap the red stop button (Stop and save). The recording is added to the page as a voice note part.
- Tap Done at the top to file it, or keep adding parts.
While recording, the round button next to it pauses and resumes. Cancel throws the recording away (Noodle asks first if it's longer than 10 seconds). The screen stays on until you stop.
Record a quick one by holding the mic
- On the + page, touch and hold the mic. Recording starts straight away and the button says Release to save.
- Speak.
- Let go. The note is added to the page.
A hold shorter than a second is thrown away, so a slip doesn't leave an empty note. Holding records straight away only once you've allowed the microphone and the voice download is on your phone; until then, holding opens the record screen instead.
Record in another language
Noodle listens for the languages you picked during setup (AI languages). After your first sentence, the language chip on the record screen shows what it heard. Tap the chip to choose the language yourself.
When you speak a language other than English, Noodle shows an English line under each line. Both, Original and English switch what you see.
Listen to a voice note later
Open the save and tap the voice note part. It plays with Play and Pause and jumps back or forward 15 seconds. Tap any line of the words to hear that moment.
Good to know
- Recordings stop at 30 minutes. Noodle warns you at 28 and saves the note when time is up.
- Turn the screen off or switch apps and the recording carries on. The notification has a Stop button that saves it.
- Say "remind me to call the vet on Friday" and Noodle offers a reminder for Friday.
- Audio takes about half a megabyte a minute. To keep only the words, go to Settings → Advanced → Transcription and turn off Keep voice recordings.
