Save photos, videos and PDFs, and find the words in them
Add photos, videos and PDFs from your gallery, camera or files. Noodle reads the words in photos and PDF pages so you can search them, and keeps photos in a Noodle Assistant folder.
On this page
Photos, videos and PDFs go in through the + tab or the Share button. Noodle reads the words in them (a receipt total, the expiry date on an insurance card, a sign on holiday) so a search finds them later.
Add photos or videos from your gallery
- Tap the + tab.
- At the bottom left, tap +. The attach panel opens.
- Tap Gallery and pick one or more photos or videos.
- Tap Done at the top and file it, or tap Later.
Several photos picked together become one save with several parts. To keep them as separate saves, add them one at a time and tap Done in between.
Take a photo with the camera
- On the + page, tap +, then Camera.
- Take the photo and confirm it in the camera app. It's added to the page as a part.
Add a PDF
- On the + page, tap +, then Document.
- Pick the PDF. Noodle reads each page, including scanned pages.
Open the save to see the pages. Tapping a search result in a PDF opens it at the right page.
See the words Noodle read in a photo
- Open the save and tap the photo.
- The words Noodle found are under Text found. Search uses them, so a search for "total 42.80" finds the receipt.
Where the files go
Photos and videos you save are kept in a folder called Noodle Assistant in your phone's Pictures, so your gallery and normal phone backups include them. Anything you move into that folder is picked up too. In Settings → Photos & videos:
- Move instead of copy asks Android to delete the original from your gallery after copying it.
- Allow photos and videos gives Noodle access to the folder, so it can pick up files you move there.
- Scan folder now checks the folder straight away.
Good to know
- With the photo search download (part of the smart features for your languages), Search also finds photos by what's in them: "dog on the beach", "whiteboard", "red sofa".
- A PDF with a password shows This PDF is locked. It's saved, but Noodle can't read its words.
- Noodle can write down what's said in your own videos. Set it up in Settings → Advanced → Transcription.
