# Install Noodle on your Android phone

> Download Noodle Assistant from noodleassistant.com and install it on your Android phone. It takes about two minutes; Android may ask you to allow installs from your browser.

Noodle Assistant is installed from our website, not from the Play Store (yet). You'll need an Android phone and a couple of minutes.

## Download and install the app

1. On your phone, open [noodleassistant.com](https://www.noodleassistant.com/) in your browser.
2. Tap **Download for Android**. The download starts straight away. If your browser asks whether to keep the file, keep it.
3. When the download finishes, tap the notification, or open your browser's downloads and tap the file.
4. If Android says your browser isn't allowed to install apps, tap **Settings** in that message, turn on **Allow from this source**, then go back.
5. Tap **Install**. After a few seconds Android says the app is installed.
6. Tap **Open**. Noodle's welcome screen appears. Carry on with [your first launch](https://www.noodleassistant.com/docs/first-launch).

The exact words in step 4 change a little between phone makers. On some phones it's called "Install unknown apps" and lives under Settings → Apps → Special app access.

## Update to a newer version

Tap **Download for Android** on the website again (or use the [direct download link](https://www.noodleassistant.com/download), which starts the download at once) and install it the same way. Android installs it over the old one, and everything you saved stays where it is.

Before a big update, it doesn't hurt to [export a backup](https://www.noodleassistant.com/docs/backup-and-restore) first.

## Good to know

- You can turn **Allow from this source** off again after installing. Noodle keeps working.
- Noodle is free. You don't need an account, and there's no card to enter.
- Smart features such as better voice notes and Ask Noodle are separate, optional downloads you choose later in the app (see [downloads](https://www.noodleassistant.com/docs/downloads)).

> **Only on Android for now**
>
> Noodle doesn't run on iPhone, iPad, the web or a computer yet, and it isn't in the Play Store. Those are planned; the [platforms section](https://www.noodleassistant.com/#platforms) on the home page says what's coming.
